My second book for Timber Press, 'The Flower-Powered Garden' was published in Feb 2018.
My love for all things floral fully explodes in this book, and 'a love that dare not speak its name' in some horticultural circles (a love of easy, breezy, colourful 'bedding' plants) bursts out of its hanging basket and shouts loud and proud.
Time to give hard-working, freely available, easy to grow, easy to please bedding plants their own super-colourful book.
I hope it will strike a chord with fellow colour-loving gardeners, and can provide some encouragement and ideas to inspire readers to super-charge their gardening spaces with wonderful plant combinations full of gorgeous blooms and luscious foliage.
“Full of good tips, growing and design guides, and an invaluable, zippy-zappy plant encyclopaedia, Andy Vernon's new book will help you plot your own flower-powered collections to make your garden glow."
John Hoyland - Gardens Illustrated Magazine - April 2018
“I liked this book as much for the planting suggestions as for the breath of fresh air it blows over the discreet, well-mannered planting schemes of most modern gardens. I hope this encourages more of us to shrug off our inhibitions and create more 'flower-powered gardens'."
Library Journal - March 2018
“Vernon’s gorgeously illustrated guide drills down deep into the topic, making this an indispensable resource for anyone looking to add a powerful punch of color to their garden”
Garden Design Online - March 2018
“Each page has photos of several plants that would all look great together in a container, bed, or border, just take your pick. It makes the guesswork of plant combinations very easy indeed.”
